My group decided to research what classification our trailer is going to get, we feel as though this is a very important part of marketing a movie, as without the correct classification you are not going to get as much money as possible for your film, and it may not target the correct audience.
We researched classification for our movie trailer and we have found that a trailer for a movie can get a different classification to the actual movie, we used the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) to look at the guidelines for different ages so we could find a suitable classification for our movie.
We have decided to choose 12A, 12 for out movie trailer and for the movie we would make it a 15 classification
When looking at the 12 classification it states 'Imitable behaviour - Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied, or appear pain or harm free. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.' we feel as though the actual movie that would follow on from the trailer will have dangerous behaviour in it, such as the main character being chased by a group of men wanting to hurt him.
The BBFC say ' Violence - Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and must have a strong contextual justification.' we have come to the conclusion that there will be very little violence in our movie trailer, and will most certainly not dwell on detail, however if a full theatrical movie was made after the trailer, it would most certainly dwell on detail when there is moderate violence. No blood will be shown in the trailer and very little amount in a full movie.
I feel as though my trailer is going to fit into the 12A/12 classification before making this decision we looked at classification of 15 rated films and how they are classified.
The 15 classification is stated that imitable behaviour is the same as it is in the 12 classification, this allows our trailer to fall into the 12a/12 catergory however the violence is slightly higher in that 'it may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable.' therefore, the intensity of the violence may be higher than it would be in a 12. our trailer can be classified as a 15 as it is very unlikely that strong violence will be shown in such a short amount of time.
