Q4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

During the research section of my project I used a handy cam video camera to record a group of people, and asked them questions about our movie trailer, after we had explained the concept to them, this was good as I was able to capture there opinions/answers as they told me them,

I also used youtube to watch trailers in order to analyse them, I used google to search for magazine front covers and promotional posters which I can use to analyse and gather forms and conventions from them.

when conducting my research I used slideshare to put them onto my blog, I would upload a powerpoint and then upload it to file share, that way I can easily embed it onto my blog.

In the planning stages of my project, I used a big A3 piece of paper to make a mind map and portray my main ideas for the movie, I then created an online version of this mind map on a website called prezi I was then able to embed it to my blog. finally I used blogger to monitor my plannings, created a 13 week plan and used it as a sort of 'diary' in which I could refer back to.

Finally In the construction stages of my film, I used final cut pro on a mac, which was very challenging to operate, I used a HD sony camera to capture my footage in order to put it on the mac, using final cut pro you could use a lot of different features within it to make your trailer look as professional as possible.

When producing my promotional poster and magazine front cover, I went with photoshop to create these. I was already well trained in photoshop as I had to use this programme in AS to create a music magazine so I already knew the basics so I just developed on these basic skills I had.

Also a semi-pro camera was used to film the footage so we could get high qaulity video clips. and i further developed my skills with the camera, such as operating the zoom in/zoom out effectivly to get some nice shots and then using the focus on the camera to get a night clean sharp image.

Q3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

I think the audience we have targeted are the type of people who would like a pyschological thriller and our genre and trailer is quite accessable by most age groups and you will find that quite alot of them will actually enjoy my trailer.

I have learnt from my audience feedback, what people like and dislike about my promotional package and how they need to be improved.

also i have learnt what i could do to make my overall media productions more effective or better for my target audience.

I had an idea on what i wanted to achieve in my product(s) but i needed to clarify that others would like the same, from my audience feedback i will be able to go away and come back with an even better product(s) i feel that through the process of recieving feedback on my products i have learned a lot about how i should make my products in the future.

Q2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Here is my 2nd evaluation question where I talk about how effective the combination of my main product and ancillary texts are and how I managed to come up with a very effective promotional package.

Q1. In what way does your media products use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Here is the first answer to my first evaluation question, you may need to pause it at certain points to read it, if it is too quick for you.

When looking at our final products such as our trailer it is clear to see that we are able to apply some narrative theoriests to it, as you can see narrative theoriests in other trailers, one narrative theoriest we can apply to my trailer is Vladimir propps theory. The theory states that
After looking over my blog to make sure everything is in check I noticed I didnt have a certification on my movie poster, which isnt really a necessaty, as most movie posters i have analysed or looked at do not contain this information either, but I thought It was best to add such information so my target audience know if this film is worth there time or is worth looking at or watching it.

Audience Feedback

- Do you think my magazine and promotional poster fit in with what the movie is about?

'Well to me it doesnt really matter about the magazine because i would just buy it if the actor is appealing to me, or if it is about a film im interested in and your film sound very interesting so i feel your movie narrative would work nicely with the magazine front cover, as for the promotional poster, i think it's brilliant, it definatly gives a sense of 'teaser' to it, because it makes me want to go see the movie, i dont understand the tagline, i believe you could change that to something alot better, which will have more relevance to the film, but overall i believe that your magazine and promotional poster work quite well with what the film is about'

- From the promotional poster, could you recognise it as in the 'psychological thriller' genre?

'Yes, the promotional poster defenitly gives you a sense that it is in the psychological genre, i suppose the text on the phone screen makes you know some stuff is going to go down, involving the phone so that could provide the thriller aspect of it, but in general yes, I would expect it to be in the psychological thriller, or maybe even an action genre'

- How effective do you feel my promotional poster is in promoting a teaser trailer?

'I think it is very effective, it doesnt give that much away, it defenitly 'teases' you and makes you want to know more, or actually go and see it, so it defenitly gives you the vibe that there is a teaser trailer to go along with this poster'

- Was the genre of my trailer obvious?
'Yes the genre was quite obvious'

- Was the use of sound effective?
'The use of background music was nice/suitable for the scene'

- Was it a good movie trailer?
'the music/film/shots in the trailer where could'

- What could be improved?
'could improve on lighting and perhaps quality'

GENERAL COMMENTS ABOUT MOVIE TRAILER.

'Very good music in the background'

'I like how the music helps build up the tension it also compliments the fast editing'

'I feel like the text needs to be on longer in between the shots, its quite hard to read'

'Quite simplistic and easy on the eye'

'The title of the movie gives you a hint as to what it's about, but not so much that you know what the whole movie is going to be about'

Narrative

Narrative, the way a plot unfolds,

My trailer has some different narrative structures, firstly it would be an open structure due to the fact that there is a cliff hanger and it leaves the end of the trailer up to suggestion, as in, you don’t know what’s going to happen.

My movie trailer also follows the qualities an enigma narrative structure would have, this means that your movie trailer/movie leaves a surprising twist, in terms of my trailer, the twist is nobody knows what the phone is about in the trailer, its just teleporting this actor around and nobody knows whats happening, this makes the audience feel puzzled, so it follows the enigma narrative structure.

And lastly I would say my trailer can have a certain aspect of POV structure because we have a POV shot in my trailer and the focus of the trailer is on the main character, this little pov shot we have in our trailer could leave clues as to what our final movie could turn out to be, there could be a pov narrative or there might not be, this adds to the ‘teaser’ aspect of trailer and plays with the audience.
